Description
As part of the 2014 summer of fun on the beach and water, the Coeur d’Alene Chamber in partnership with KIDS Camp are presenting the '2014 Lake Coeur d’Alene Cardboard Regatta.' This fun event is a chance for teams of three to show off their boat design and construction skills and then to prove their boat’s seaworthiness in a race. Families and friends can join up to participate in this contest; local businesses and organizations are encouraged to be represented by staff members for corporate and organization challenges. The races will be held on the 16th of August, starting at 11am at the smaller city beach at Independence Point.
There are three categories: Juniors, age 8 – 15 ($25 per team), Adults 16 – 101 ($25 per team) and Corporate/Business ($50 per team).
Each team is given a pile of cardboard, 2 scissors, and 2 rolls of duct tape for building their boat. These are the only supplies allowed in the boat’s construction, however, contestants will need to provide their own paddles/oars and Coast Guard approved personal flotation device (one per person.) Teams will have one hour to build their boat. They will then compete for one of three awards: Race Winner, Judges Favorite, and Titanic Award (best sinking boat- if applicable!)
