Description

We invite you to join us for the grand opening of our new exhibit, showcasing new artwork by local artists on Thursday, March 10, 2011 @ 6:30 PM. Event will be held at the HREI building at the intersection of Northwest Blvd and Mullan Avenue, on the corner of the Coeur d'Alene City Park.

Local artists were asked to interpret and portray one of Mahatma Gandhi?s social sins as part of a two year program at HREI. The local artists whose work will be on display include Donna Bain, Harold Balazs, Allen Dodge, Mary Dee Dodge, Rhea Giffin, Barb Mueller, Joan Smith, Austin Stiegemeier and Marci Wing. Each artist will discuss his or her interpretation and portrayal of the social sin and how it was transformed into art at the March 10 event.

For the next two years, HREI will host exhibits, panels, discussions and programs that will introduce each of Gandhi?s social sins and discuss them in the context of everyday life. The artwork will be revealed at the opening event and will be on display at HREI through December 2012.

The evening will also include a performance by the North Idaho College Chamber Singers, conducted by Max Mendez.

This event is free and open to the public and all are invited to attend. Light hors d?oeuvres will be served. Cash donations and donations in the form of ?Friends of the Human Rights Education Institute? will be accepted.
