Description
On July 9th, enjoy the fourth annual Parks Day Celebration. It will begin with a free pancake breakfast at Northshire Park at 9:00 a.m. cooked up by the Panhandle Kiwanis. There will also be an inflatable bouncer, a bicycle safety course, horseshoes, volleyball, tennis, pickleball and informational booths. CdA Rock School will hold a concert with students of all ages playing rock music, in addition, there will be balloons, sack races, a guest appearance from Mudgy the moose, HAM radio demonstrations, and the and much more.
Right next to Northshire Park is Central Bark Dog Park. Join the Kootenai County Dog Park Association for many dog related activities including a dog agility demonstration, dog parade (costumes optional), Art on the Edge project (make your own dog collars and chew toys), dog related information booths, free giveaways from Petco, photos with your dog from 29K productions and much more.
At Johnson Mill River from 9:00am-1:00pm join the North Idaho Fly Casters for ongoing interactive fly fishing instructions (rods provided), fly tying, gear demos and fishing related educational materials and free snacks. For participating at this location, you’ll be entered in to win a great fly fishing prize.
It’s all brought to you courtesy of the Coeur d’Alene Parks Department and the Coeur d’Alene Parks Foundation. Sponsors include Waste Management, Kootenai Electric Co-op, Transtector systems, J.U.B. Engineers, Helca Mining, Parker Toyota and the Hallock Family.
Parks Day originated in 2008 when the Parks Master Plan survey revealed that quite a few Coeur d’Alene citizens didn’t know the locations of many of their city parks. This year, the Parks Day Celebration will feature Northshire Park, Central Bark (Dog Park), and the Johnson Mill River Park and the Coeur d’Alene Soccer Complex.
At 6:00 p.m. activities will continue at the Coeur d’Alene Soccer Complex including a free hot dog dinner cooked by the Lion’s Club. Also present will be Sting Soccer hosting a semi-pro soccer game and soccer camp, Art on the Edge crafts, Bubbles the Clown, an inflatable bouncer and more. The movie Mega Mind will be shown at dusk hosted by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department and there will be free popcorn and soda served.
