Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest

Volunteer Adult Mentor

Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest is seeking volunteer adult mentors to join our community-based mentoring program in North Idaho. Mentors (aka 'Bigs') are paired with local youth (age 6-16). These 'Matches' spend time together 2-3 times per month for 2-3 hours at a time. Big and Littles spend time doing things they both enjoy like going for walks, playing games, doing crafts, getting food, etc. Each Match is unique and catered to best fit the needs of each Big and Little. Each Match receives training and ongoing support from our dedicated Match support specialists.

Becoming a mentor is easy!

1. Fill out an application at https://nwbigs.org/programs/be-a-big/ (15-20 minutes)

2. Complete self-paced training and a virtual training with our team related to child safety and building healthy relationships. (2-3 hours)

3. Complete an interview that helps us understand more about you so we can make a great Match! (1 hour)

4. Get Matched with a Little and start spending quality time together!

About BBBS of the Inland Northwest:

Big Brothers Big Sisters came to the Inland Northwest in 1965, and at its peak was serving over 700 kids per year, supported largely by proceeds from the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bingo Hall. When the Bingo Hall ceased operations in 2006, we struggled to fill the funding gaps, eventually decreasing staff size, downsizing locations, and reducing the number of matches we were able to support.

Today, Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Inland Northwest serves 200 kids per year, including more than 100 community-based matches and dozens of matches at local schools. More than 50 kids are waiting to be matched with a mentor. Despite the decrease in the number of matches, the outcomes for those who are engaged with Big Brothers Big Sisters speak for themselves.

Our mission is to create and support one-to-one youth mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth!
