KYRO Launches Community Phase of Capital Campaign to Expand Frontier Ice Arena
KYRO (Kootenai Youth Recreation Organization - a 501(c)(3) non profit), has announced a Community Impact Launch ceremony to celebrate a new community phase in building a second ice rink, expanding access to ice sports across Northern Idaho, Eastern Washington, and Western Montana.
The $5.6 million project has already secured $1.7 million, allowing construction to begin. An additional $3.9 million in community support is needed to complete the expansion.
Founded in 2000, Frontier Ice Arena serves youth, adults, and families through programs including hockey (The Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy has students from all around the world), sled hockey, curling, figure skating (Spokane Figure Skating Club - one of the oldest in the country), Learn-to-Skate, family skating, and birthday parties. The second rink will significantly increase ice availability and allow the arena to host more youth and adult hockey tournaments and figure skating competitions and Learn to Skate programming that is the entry point to all things ice, generating additional economic impact for the region.
“This project is an investment in our region’s future,” said Vince Hughes, President of KYRO, “By expanding Frontier Ice Arena, we’re increasing recreational access for kids and families, while also attracting tournaments, competitions, and visitors that generate meaningful economic activity for our city and surrounding communities.”
KYRO is leading fundraising efforts to ensure the expanded facility remains accessible and community-centered for generations to come.
